Privacy policy

Citizenship Test, by William Brand. Last updated October 7, 2026.

The short version. Your progress stays on your device. There’s no account, no analytics, no crash reporting, no tracking and no ads. Your location is used only if you tap Find my district, and only to look up your district.

Your data stays on your device

Your test choice, state and district, interview date, bookmarks, answers and quiz results are stored only on your device. There is no account, and the app doesn’t collect analytics or crash reports, track you, or show ads.

Officials list

To keep answers like “Who is your governor?” current, the app downloads an updated list of public officials. The request doesn’t include anything about you.

Location

Only when you tap Find my district, the app gets your location once and sends the coordinates to the U.S. Census Bureau’s public geocoder to look up your congressional district. Your location isn’t stored or sent anywhere else. You can always pick your district from the list instead, and the app never asks for location otherwise.

Read aloud

Questions are read aloud with your device’s built-in voice. Nothing is recorded or sent.

Purchases

Civics Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment, and I never see your payment details. The app checks with the App Store whether your subscription is active.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page and in the app, with a new date at the top.
