Citizenship Test support

Need a hand? Email hello@williambrand.dev.

It helps to include your device model, your iOS version and, if something looks wrong, a screenshot.

Your test

Which test should I study?

It depends on when you filed Form N-400. If you filed on or after October 20, 2025, you take the 2025 test: 128 questions to study, up to 20 asked, 12 right to pass. If you filed before that, you take the 2008 test: 100 questions, 10 asked, 6 right to pass. You can switch in Settings, under Your test.

What is 65/20?

If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20 years or more, you only need to study 20 starred questions. Turn on 65/20 in Settings and the app shows only those questions; 10 are asked and 6 must be right.

Where do the questions come from?

From the official USCIS civics question lists for each test. The app isn’t affiliated with USCIS or any government agency. For the rules that apply to your interview, check uscis.gov/citizenship.

Your state’s answers

How do I get answers for my state?

Choose your state and congressional district in Settings or on the My State tab. Questions about your governor, senators, representative and state capital are then answered for where you live.

I don’t know my congressional district

Tap Find my district from my location. The app uses your location once to look up the district with the U.S. Census Bureau, and doesn’t keep it. If location access is off, you can turn it on in Settings, under Apps, then Citizenship Test, then Location, or just pick your district from the list.

An official’s name is out of date

The list of officials is updated as offices change hands, so check that you have the latest version of the app. If a name still looks wrong, email me with your state and district and I’ll look into it. For some U.S. territories a governor isn’t available, and the app says so rather than guess.

Practice

How does the test simulation work?

Like the real interview: questions are drawn at random and read aloud, and the test ends as soon as you pass or can no longer pass. On the 2025 test that means 12 right or 9 wrong. The simulation is part of Civics Pro.

How do I change the reading voice speed, or turn reading off?

In Settings, under Read aloud, you can change the speed, try it out, and choose whether simulation questions are read aloud. The app uses your device’s built-in voice.

Will my bookmarks from the old version carry over?

Yes. The first time you open the new version, your bookmarks and your chosen state and representative are brought across automatically.

Civics Pro

What does Civics Pro include?

The test simulation, smart review and progress insights. Studying, flashcards, the quick quiz and My State are always free.

I subscribed in the old version of the app

Your subscription carries over. If Pro doesn’t show as active, tap Restore purchases in Settings while signed in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with.

How do I cancel?

Tap Manage subscription in the app’s Settings, or go to Settings on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next month.

How do I get a refund?

Payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
