Retro Tape, by William Brand. Last updated September 30, 2026.

The short version. Your videos never leave your device. Retro Tape has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. The only information that leaves your device is the record of any in-app purchase you make, which is handled by Apple and RevenueCat.

Your photos and videos

Retro Tape asks for access to your Photo Library so it can show your videos as tapes on the shelf and apply the VHS effect to them. All of this happens on your iPhone or iPad. Your videos are never uploaded, and I never see them.

When you export a clip, the finished video is saved to your Photos library or sent wherever you choose through the share sheet. Nothing is shared unless you share it.

Tapes and settings

Your custom tapes, their labels and your settings are stored on your device.

Purchases

If you make an in-app purchase, Apple processes the payment. I never see your name, Apple ID or payment details.

Retro Tape uses RevenueCat to check which purchases you have made so the right features are unlocked. To do that, RevenueCat receives:

RevenueCat does not receive your photos, videos, location or contacts. This information is used to provide your purchases and to give me anonymous sales figures. It is not used to track you across other apps or websites, and it is not sold.

What Retro Tape doesn't do

Your choices

You can change or remove Retro Tape's access to your Photo Library at any time in Settings, under Apps, then Retro Tape, then Photos. Deleting the app removes your tapes and settings from your device.

If you'd like the purchase records connected to your copy of the app deleted, email me and I'll arrange it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top.
