Retro Tape support
Need a hand? Email contact@williambrand.dev.
It helps to include your device model, your iOS version and, if something looks wrong, a screen recording.
Your videos
Retro Tape can't see my videos, or only some of them
Retro Tape needs permission to read your Photo Library. Open Settings, then Apps, then Retro Tape, then Photos. Full Access shows every video. Limited Access shows only the videos you've picked, and you can add more from the same screen.
Why are my videos grouped by year?
Retro Tape automatically sorts your library into one tape per year. To put particular clips together, make a Custom Tape and give it its own label. Custom tapes can be reopened and edited whenever you want.
The effect
How do I change how strong the VHS look is?
Choose Light, Classic or Worn while previewing a video. Classic is the tuned default; Light is subtler and Worn is heavier.
Can I turn off the date and time on screen?
Yes. You choose whether to include the recording date and time while previewing, and that choice is carried into the exported video.
How do I compare with the original?
Switch between Original and VHS while previewing your video.
Exporting
What do exported videos look like?
Exports are MP4 files that keep your video's aspect ratio, at up to 1920 pixels on the longest edge and up to 30 frames per second. The VHS effect, and the date and time if you chose it, are rendered into the video itself.
Where does my export go?
When rendering finishes you can save the clip straight to Photos, or open the share sheet to send it through Messages, AirDrop, social apps and anywhere else your device supports.
Why is my export taking a while?
Rendering happens on your device, so the time depends on the length and resolution of the original video and the speed of your iPhone or iPad. Live progress is shown while it renders. For videos longer than 10 minutes, keep Retro Tape open until the export finishes.
